World Links for Development

The WorLD program provides an opportunity to work together with classes in developing countries on various projects. Currently it links schools in developing countries with thousands of teachers and students in over 25 industrialized countries and developing countries on a range of topics including: environment, geography, gender equity, cultural heritage, biology and literature.

The program aims to improve educational opportunities and build global awareness. By linking schools across the globe through collaborative projects and educational networks, WorLD enriches the experience of educators and students in industrialized as well as developing countries.

At the following address you can find out how to find a partner school and become involved in a collaborative project:

The WorLD program also has a range of other objectives. An important aspect of their overall program involves providing access to the Internet for secondary schools in developing countries. This is particularly important as a way of slowing the widening gap between industrialized and developing countries in Internet access. In South Asia, for example, less than 1% of people are online, even though it is home to one-fifth of the world's population. Industrialized countries on the other hand with only 15% of the world's population are home to 88% of all Internet users!

WorLD is tackling the lack of access in a number of ways, including providing technical assistance to promote telecommunications policies and reforms which lower the operating costs of Internet-based education programs.
