  1. Introductory Activities
    1. Identify the fundamental socio-economic details of Pakistan and The Democratic Republic of Congo, for example geography, population, basic aspects of their economy etc.
    2. Provide a brief summary of the major political and social changes/upheavals in the history of each country.

  2. Class Discussion
    1. Is the CRC an important document? Do you agree with the CRC?
    2. Investigate how countries go about formalising their commitment to improving child rights. How does Australia rate in its own commitment to the CRC?
    3. What sort of services should governments provide for children to ensure their rights?
    4. Have any class members lived in another country? What was life like compared to Australia?

  3. Creative writing activity
    Imagine you are a child living in a country where your rights are denied:
    1. Talk about the problems you might face as a result
    2. How does this make you feel?
    3. What would you do to change the situation?

  4. Group activity
    Write a play about the subject of child rights and present the play to the class.

  5. Research
    1. What are your rights in school? Do you agree with these?
    2. Research the history of the CRC and child rights.

  6. Create your own "Convention on the Rights of the Child" treaty. What rights did you include and why?
