Student Activities

- Locate Indonesia on a map. (Click here to view map.) Describe its location in southeast Asia

- Find a map showing world earthquake zones and volcanic eruptions
- Find a map showing plate tectonics
- Describe the effects of the above on the landforms and lives of people in Flores.
- Imagine you are one of the Flores Water Supply and Sanitation Project designers. Write a report including the following:
- Rationale (Why should AusAID assist the people of Flores?)
- Background (Describe the geography of Flores and the effects of the earthquake and tidal wave.)
- Project goals (Describe what needs to be achieved in this project)
- Roles and responsibilities (List the roles and responsibilities of:
- the Indonesian Government
- the Australian Government (through AusAID)
- AusAID project members
- Project outcomes (Describe the short term and long term benefits of the project.)
- Imagine you live in a Flores community. You have identified the need to educate your community about health practices. Design posters to use in your health education program to show:
- ways of keeping the water supply clean
- how diseases commonly found in Flores are spread and how to avoid them. (You will need to research these diseases. Group members could select a different disease to research and share their findings. )
