Overview
This case study focuses on the social and economic benefits derived from the building of a bridge in Lae. It builds on the information provided in the primary case study, "Building bridges in Papua New Guinea". Teachers should provide students with a copy of the primary case study to read as background information.

Objectives
Students will:

- Gain knowledge about the problems facing the people of Papua
New Guinea and ways the people are working to overcome them
- Develop empathy with and positive attitudes towards people
in developing countries
Preparation
Teachers need to do the following preparation prior to the activities:
- Make copies of the primary case study,
"Building bridges in Papua New Guinea", for the class to use in
the activities associated with this case study.
- Obtain atlases and world maps
- Gather resources about Papua New Guinea in general
- Arrange for a library visit to research physical
features, resources, industries and transport networks in Papua
New Guinea.
