Teacher's Notes

  1. Read the case study, A Simple Solution.

  2. Use map 2 (click here) to find the pilot provinces named in the case study. Draw your own map and name the river deltas where these provinces are found. Label the provinces. Discuss why these provinces would have been chosen for pilot programs.

  3. Watch the video, Iodine Deficiency Control Project: Vietnam. Draw a mind map to show how the levels of iodine affect the people's health.

  4. List the health problems caused by lack of iodine in the diet and the effects on the community.

  5. Read the five points of the project team plan. In pairs, make a chart to show each strategy, the people involved, the equipment needed and the resources which would be necessary.

Discuss your suggestions with the class.

  6. Imagine you are in charge of a team to implement the plan in another province. Describe the steps you would take to promote and implement the plan and place the steps in the best order to ensure success. Give reasons why you have chosen this order.
