A 26 page workbook to accompany the free 42 minute video of this title produced by Caritas Australia, Catholic Education Commission NSW, and the Australian Government. The video introduces 16 year old Augustino who lives in East Timor, and contrasts his life with 16 year old Laurence in Australia. Both boys are caught up in life threatening emergencies which force them to leave home. In East Timor Augustino flees the militia and Indonesian army violence; in Australia Laurence escapes the massive Shoalhaven bushfires. This resources introduces the nation of East Timor and explores the issues surrounding why people move. This series is designed to incorporate a cross-curriculum perspective of Asia and integrates justice across the curriculum. Suitable for middle school.

CHART is an evolving project. Its primary aims are to: identify material holders in Australia and encourage and assist them to preserve and document the content of their collections; develop and maintain a central database of the location and content of the dispersed collection of Timor materials in Australia and make this information available on the Internet through a CHART Web site; monitor archival developments in East Timor and identify materials in Australia which may be of particular interest to archive projects in East Timor; and identify 'key' and rare documents of the Timor story and promote their preservation through photographic or electronic imaging projects.

In March, 2003 Kirsty Sword Gusmao returned to where she spent part of her childhood to launch 'The Friendship Schools Project' as part of her work with the Alola Foundation. This online activity is being developed to support Eaglehawk PS students and other schools interested in developing knowledge and understanding on East Timor. It provides a hotlist of informative internet sites.

August 30 marks the five-year anniversary of the independence referendum in East Timor. This referendum saw the East Timorese strongly voice their desire for liberty from Indonesia. In order for East Timor to survive and become a peaceful and prosperous nation, the issues of poverty on an individual and national scale, as well as the growing problems of political instability, must be addressed. Issue 87 of OzSpirit (Caritas) includes a timeline, the text of a speech made by Dr Jose Ramos Horta (The East Timor Foreign Minister and Nobel Prize winner 1997) and activities on tuberculosis and health issues.
