The Asia Research Centre on Social, Political and Economic Change at Murdoch University, Western Australia, has been established as a Special Research Centre of the Australian Research Council to provide an analysis of contemporary East and Southeast Asia. The Centre's work is intended to enhance Australia's understanding of its Asian environment, and its capacity to deal effectively with the region, particularly in facing the economic challenges posed by the industrialising countries of East and Southeast Asia. A central project is to assess the impact of the emerging middle classes upon the social, economic and political environment of the Asia-Pacific region.

The Australian e-Humanities Research Network aims to support the work of technologically active researchers in developing new approaches to research and delivery using digital methods; and to extend the benefits of this research to Humanities researchers and practitioners in cultural and educational organisations throughout Australia, through the promotion of information flow, training and availability of discipline-appropriate tools. This database, commenced January 2004 and funded by ARC Research network seed funding, is the first step in developing a comprehensive online resource for Australian Humanities scholars. The initial implementation links three categories of information: people, grants and projects. Additional categories will be added as the database develops.
