The American Educational Research Association is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results. AERA is the most prominent international professional organization with the primary goal of advancing educational research and its practical application. Its more than 22,000 members are educators; administrators; directors of research, testing or evaluation in federal, state and localagencies; counselors; evaluators;graduate students; and behavioral scientists. The broad range of disciplines represented by the membership includes education,psychology, statistics, sociology, history, economics, philosophy, anthropology, and political science.

The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a collaborative effort undertaken by all member countries and a number of non-member partner countries to measure how well students, at age 15, are prepared to meet the challenges they may encounter in future life. This publication presents the conceptual framework underlying the PISA 2006 survey. It includes a re-developed and expanded framework for scientific literacy, an innovative component on the assessment of students' attitudes to science and the frameworks for the assessment of reading and mathematics. Within each domain, the framework defines the content that students need to acquire, the processes that need to be performed, and the contexts in which knowledge and skills are applied. Sample tasks are also provided.

ANZCCART's objectives are to promote: excellence in the care of animals used or supplied in research and teaching; responsible scientific use of animals; informed discussion and debate within the community regarding these matters; and, the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement) as they apply to the use of animals for scientific purposes. As an independent body that consults widely, ANZCCART provides well-researched and objective information that helps to ensure that research and teaching using animals is conducted in a careful, considered and humane way.
