Turning back the sands

Year level: Upper primary/Lower secondary

Learning outcome

Students examine activities that are addressing desertification in Inner Mongolia.

Read Turning back the sands, Environmental rehabilitation in Inner Mongolia, China.

Locate the Autonomous Region of Inner Mongolia in China and examine the geographical features on a map.

Outline the problems identified in the Alxa League.

List the methods used to address the problems.

Select a role of one of the plants, animals or people living or working in the area (for example grasses, trees, sheep, goats, farmer, school child or project worker). List their particular problems and possible solutions.

Develop a written or visual description of the life of your role before and after the project described.

Assessment task

Write a short statement about why you would or would not like to live in desert area of Alxa League.
