Getting to know the polar regions

Students will investigate the geography of the polar regions and how it interacts with their own life.

Read the International Polar Year Facts and Background for the International Polar Year.

Examine the maps of Antarctica and the Arctic on the website or in an atlas.

Name three similarities and differences between the two polar regions based on their geography, population and economy.

Describe how the polar regions affect the global climate.

Describe how our lifestyles affect the polar regions.

Research

What mechanisms are in place to protect the environment?
