Exploring the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development program

Year level: Upper secondary

Learning Outcomes

Students analyse the impact of the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD) program and its contribution to the Australian aid program

Scan the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD) website http://www.ausaid.gov.au/youtham/

Write a list of the advantages of the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development Program for:

  • the youth ambassadors
  • the people overseas who the projects are designed to assist
  • the Australian overseas aid program

Use the website to investigate the placements for the next intake of volunteers. Select one that might interest you and write an application.

Imagine that you have been selected for the placement you have chosen.

  • Which country are you going to and what project will you be working on?
  • What preparations will you need to make?
  • How might the experience change your views about the world?

Imagine you are a member of a community that will be affected by one of the projects the volunteers are working on. Create a positive/negative question chart (PNQ) about someone from another country coming to work with you.

Assessment task

Create a television advertisement for the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development Program, informing young adults about the program and encouraging them to apply. If possible, make a video of your advertisement to play to your class.
