Global Perspective within Studies of Society and Environment

Global perspective

Studying global issues gives students a grasp of the parts societies and nations play in the world and an understanding of ecological, economic, social and political interdependence. This perspective highlights the effects of cultural interaction and global economic exchanges and students come to understand the impacts some cultures have on others, the global marketplace and the efforts of countries to increase their economic competitiveness.
This perspective:

  • develops an appreciation of Australia's place in the world
  • recognises the interdependence of all people and life on the planet
  • examines the interacting factors that cause poverty, disease, inhumanity, injustice, conflict and environmental abuse
  • examines difficulties in our world's attempts to address these problems
  • recognises that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a human condition without hostilities and violence
