Right to protection

Year level: Lower/middle primary

Learning outcome

Students will explore who and how they are kept safe and healthy.

Role-play a situation of someone helping others (family, community people, health care, government) for others to identify what you are doing..

Role-play the following situations showing what you would do, what you say and how you help someone who:

  • is feeling sick
  • has no lunch
  • has fallen over
  • is feeling threatened by someone
  • has been lost
  • has not been collected from school
  • has been hit by a car
  • has been in a danger
  • has to work in a dangerous situation
  • has nowhere to go to escape danger.

Collect advertisements and signs that help people learn about living a healthy and safe life, (eg immunisation, food, road safety, safety houses)

Discuss:

  • Who helps you to be safe and healthy?
  • Why do they help you?
  • What responsibilities do you have to help yourself?

Read stories about children in other places.
