Refugees teaching activities

Teachers need to take care when using these materials. Students who have had traumatic experiences may find some of these activities disturbing.

Defining refugees (UP/LS) : Students will apply the definition of refugees and research the causes, consequences and responses to current conflicts.
Experience flight (UP) : Students will contrast the experiences of people fleeing home in fear.
Experience resettlement (LS) : Students will examine how refugee situations are resolved and how they experience resettlement.
Humanitarian assistance for Sudan (U/Sec) : Students will examine details of the humanitarian assistance program in Darfur, Sudan and assess the response and possibilities for durable solutions.
Life in a refugee camp (UP/LS) : Students will analyse life in a refugee camp as a way of addressing the needs of refugees.
Out of a wasteland: resettlement in Sri Lanka (UP/LS) : Students will review the activities of the Colombo refuge centre 'Samata Sarana' and evaluate how they assist displaced people rebuild their lives.
Quiz: Refugees and 'People of Concern' (UP/LS) : Students will test their beliefs and definitions of refugees and 'people of concern'
Refugee camps on the Thailand-Burma border (LS) : Students will examine aspects of life in refugee camps and assess the responses and possibilities for durable solutions
Refugees Learning Quest (UP/LS) : Students will determine the best way for a team to manage a refugee camp effectively so that the refugees remain safe and healthy
Using statistics to measure the refugee problem (U/Sec) : Students will examine the accuracy of common statements about refugees.
