Learning outcome

Students evaluate changes in human action to combat desertification.

Read the paragraph on combating desertification in the Background section of the Deserts and desertification Global Issue page:

List the methods suggested for combating desertification.

Create a Consequence chart about one of these methods, and suggest some of the possible outcomes for the environment and people living in the area.

Research a story about combating desertification, for example:

Construct a model or diagram showing the 'before' and 'after' of the project combating desertification.

Create a PMI chart of the action.

Present the model and PMI chart to the class.

List, in order from most to least effective, the different methods for combating desertification that the class explored.

Assessment task

Argue for or against the need for international action to combat desertification.
