Students
will examine the Universal Declaration on Human Rights and compare its implementation in a different country.
|
Write, in pairs, a list of rights you think you have.
Write a list of rights you think people in another country have (choose a country that you know something about).
Read the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, either complete or the ‘plain language’ version on http://www.un.org/cyberschoolbus/humanrights/declaration/index.asp.
Write each right in your own terms (share the rights among the class).
Compare the list to your original list and discuss the differences.
Classify your new versions into groups (eg economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights or rights for basic needs, freedom, safety and fairness).
Find examples of these rights in action or being violated in Australia and in your selected country.
Create an imaginary interview/conversation/email exchange between yourself and a person in your selected country about access to rights – what you think is important, what you can do to improve the situation etc.
- Assessment task
-
