Culture and beliefs

Year level: Middle primary/Upper primary/Lower secondary

Learning outcome

Students learn about other countries to compare lifestyles with their own and appreciate the similarities and differences.

What do people eat?

Use travel brochures, recipe books and other research to find out about some of the foods eaten in the country.

  • Why might these foods be eaten?
  • What foods are eaten daily and what foods are eaten on special occasions?

Taste a typical meal by preparing a dish, inviting someone who has lived in the country to explain their experiences or visiting a restaurant.

What are some cultural features?

Use government websites, travel brochures and other research to find out about pastimes – recreation, artwork etc

  • What are the main interests?
  • How do these differ between men and women? Children and adults? Rich and poor?

What do people believe?

Use country profiles to find out the distribution of religions

  • What are some of the key features of the belief system?
  • How do the belief systems influences everyday life?
