Biodiversity band

Year level: Lower primary

Learning outcome

Students will understand the importance of biodiversity loss through dramatisation of an interlinked machine.

Explain to the class they are going to form a machine. Encourage students to link into someone else and make a sound. (Students may need to experiment with repetitive movements and sounds beforehand.)
Once all students are involved suggest that those along a particular ‘arm’ or making a particular noise experienced a power failure.
Discuss: How did everyone work together?
What happened when some people could not work?
Explain this is like biodiversity – all living parts are linked together.

Assessment task

Draw a picture of the machine and show what happens when one part breaks down.
