Aid - Brainstorm and PNQ

Year level: Upper secondary

Learning outcomes

Students define aid and evaluate the outcomes of aid for the giving and receiving countries

Brainstorm what you know about overseas aid.

Some questions to get you thinking:

  • What is overseas aid?
  • Who gives it?
  • What is the purpose of it?
  • Why would a country give aid to developing countries?
  • Which sorts of countries would be the recipients of aid?
  • When would aid be given?

Organise the brainstorm into a PNQ chart about the impact of aid for the giving and receiving countries.

P - Positives
N - Negatives
Q - Questions

Use the questions to research further about aid through the internet, interviews and printed materials.

Debate: Aid is effective in addressing world poverty.

Assessment task

Write a statement about ways to improve the effectiveness of aid with supporting evidence.
