For more than half of humanity rice is life. It is the grain that has shaped the cultures, diets, and economies of billions of people in Asia. For them, life without rice is simply unthinkable. There is information about the history of rice and its cultural heritage, and how rice is used for purposes other than eating, such as weaving and in artwork. It also considers how rice production has been transformed by new technologies, enabling much higher yields and fewer problems in terms of disease and failed crops.
