Students investigate
the extent of the problem of food insecurity in the world and what Australia is
doing to address food insecurity. | Name some
countries where you think people have access to sufficient healthy food. In small
groups, compare your lists and discuss why you have selected these
countries. Use the latest version of 'The State of the Food Insecurity
in the World' from the Food and Agriculture Organization's website http://www.fao.org/sof/sofi/index_en.htm
and map http://www.fao.org/es/ess/faostat/foodsecurity/FSMap/map14.htm
to check your list and answer the following questions: - How many people
do not have enough to eat? (ie How many are food insecure?)
- Where do they
live?
- How would you describe these countries? (Think about their economic,
social, political and environmental conditions)
- What factors contribute
to food security?
- What links are there between food security and poverty?
Develop a 'web map' that shows and summarises the main causes
of food insecurity.
Describe how your physique, health and lifestyle
would differ if you and your family were often hungry.
Read the Food
Security background at: http://www.globaleducation.edna.edu.au/globaled/go/pid/177
then prepare a report explaining how aid from Australia contributes to
improving food security for countries in its region.
- Assessment task
-

chart (PMI) for one action addressing food insecurity. |
