Purpose

This activity is suitable for older students. Students critically view images presented of developing countries and explore the images for bias.

Preparation

• photographs and pictures of people from developing countries.

Procedure

Look at some photographs. Critically view them by asking questions, such as:

• How does the photograph make you feel?
• Who might have taken the photograph?
• What message do they want you to get?
• Why are they presenting this image?
• How do you think they want you to feel?
• What images does it give you of people in that country?
• Do you think that there are things that the photograph does not show you?
